Use of Fireworks

The use of consumer fireworks is prohibited within the city limits of North liberty except for following dates/times as allowed by State of Iowa regulations:

  • July 3rd (9 am – 10 pm)
  • July 4th (9 am – 11 pm)
  • December 31th (9 am – 12:30 am the following day)
    • Legal Usage: Fireworks must be discharged on your own property or private property with the owner’s consent.
    • Illegal Usage: Using fireworks on public property (streets, parks, sidewalks) is prohibited.
    • Penalties: Violating local ordinances regarding times or locations can lead to a simple misdemeanor and fines.

If you choose to use fireworks during permitted times, please do so safely:

• Never allow children to handle fireworks, including sparklers.

• Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby.

• Light one device at a time and move away quickly.

• Never try to relight a malfunctioning firework.

• Soak used fireworks in water before placing them in the trash.

• Be considerate of neighbors, pets, and veterans who may be sensitive to loud noises.
